Quick and dirty remote review

The Mag+ Reviewer app lets you check out your vertical and issues on an iPad that’s on the same wireless network, but what if you want to show an issue to someone in another city? You can set up a remote review server, but here I’ll show you a quick and dirty way solution that doesn’t require any PHP-server messing about, just a dropbox.com account.

1. Open the issue you want to review in the Production Tool, and hit the Create MIB button. When it’s ready, that MIB file will be in your Issue folder.

2. Open a free account at dropbox.com. Dropbox is an awesome service that stores files in the cloud and syncs them between computers. Free accounts come with 2GB of storage. Inside your Dropbox folder you’ll find a Public folder: any file in there gets its own URL.

3. Drag that MIB file you just made into your Public folder; once it’s synced, right click it and choose Get Dropbox Public link.

4. Tell the person you want to review your issue to download the Reviewer App from the iTunes store, open it and create a magplus.com login so they can use it.

5. Ask them to go to their iPad Settings, and choose the settings for the Reviewer app. Select Authoring Settings, and make sure “Authoring server” is set to Single MIB file.

6. Now send that person the URL you just got from Dropbox and tell them to put it under the Local MIB address field in the Settings.

7. Finally, just have them open the Reviewer app and hit Review: the app will download that MIB file and load automatically.

Thanks for sharing this. Your post provided me with the very solution I was looking for. There’s another post here somewhere with seriously intense instructions for posting and updating from Drop Box automatically, but that was way too involved for me.
