Monday, April 1st, 2013, New York Magazine launched their new iPad app, which takes full advantage of Apple’s iOS platform. Created with the mag+ SDK (Software Development Kit), this app combines weekly magazine content with daily website content in an innovative way. As users enter the app they are greeted with a dual design that teases website content as well as information from the latest weekly issue of New York Magazine. The team at New York Magazine is calling this dual design the ‘window shade’. Users can easily open or shut the ‘window shade’ to reveal either weekly magazine content, or fresh daily content from nymag.com including; Vulture, the Cut, and Grub Street. Users get to choose the experience they will have.
Partnering with The Wonderfactory, New York Magazine’s new iOS app is beautifully designed, and masterfully developed. The already inspiring content now transitions seamlessly from InDesign to the iPad. We highly recommend you download New York Magazine from iTunes – the app shows what iPad digital publishing can, and should be.
The team at the Wonderfactory and New York Magazine used the mag+ SDK, which allowed them to take advantage of the mag+ tools and distribution, while creating a truly custom app. With the mag+ SDK, users have the freedom to create custom experiences – the New York Magazine app is a fantastic example of this.
