Mobile devices aren’t just for reading and playing games. They can also be a great tool for learning. We’re happy to announce the very first English learning iPad app magazine created on mag+.
The Yes Magazine+ app is a re-designed version of Your English Supplement magazine created especially for the iPad. It includes all of the content found in the print edition (136 pages + one hour’s audio), and of course it also includes some great iPad-only features.
Here’s a video to show off the app and some of the great features included. If you don’t want to watch the video you can read about the features below.
EMBEDDED AUDIO: each volume includes all of the audio files, which can be played while reading the magazine.
SELF-CORRECTING EXERCISES: the magazine includes around 30 varied exercises to practice and reinforce the vocabulary, grammar and listening in the magazine. Each article is linked to its exercise by tapping on a button. Moreover, at the tap of a button the answers pop up in each exercise. There is also a link to download a print version of the exercises if you prefer.
LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF FOOTNOTES: Yes has the most extensive, thorough and rigorous footnoting of any English-learning material at a tap of the screen. These footnotes appear next to each section of corresponding text. They help you with stress, pronunciation and synonymy. The easy-English definitions mean that learning is dynamic. Moreover, many of the footnotes are illustrated to help fix concepts in the learner’s mind. You’ll never have to use a dictionary as all the difficult vocabulary is explained in context. If you are a teacher using the app in class, you can choose to hide the footnotes at a tap of the screen for a reading comprehension exercise and then reveal them when appropriate.
RELEVANT VIDEO LINKS: once you have read an article and understand the central vocabulary of the topic, take the matter further with carefully selected relevant video (and audio) links.
TOUCH-SCREEN INDEX FOR EASY ACCESS: navigate the magazine freely and easily using the special navigation menu or the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen.
