The travel and tourism industry is jumping on the tablet bandwagon, and rightfully so! As tablet owners increase, and the number of apps downloaded skyrocket, what better way to inspire readers to travel than through a targeted app? This week’s app spotlight is on North Carolina’s 2013 Travel Guide.
By using the mag+ iPad app builder, this travel app showcases what North Carolina has to offer through stunning photography and videos. The North Carolina travel guide uses pop-up hot spots that offer enhanced content for the reader. In the dining section, for example, as readers scroll through learning about notable chefs, hot restaurants, wineries and hand-crafted brews, they can click on the hot spot for additional insider information that discusses the farmer markets where products in these restaurants come from.
The outdoor playground section highlights some of the more adventurous activities that are available in the great outdoors of North Carolina. Hang gliding, world-class kayaking, fishing and windsurfing are some of the local favorites. Auto-play short videos are placed throughout the app adding interest for readers. One of my favorite videos shows a hang glider catching flight at Jockey’s Ridge.
Read about pickin’, playin,’ and singin’ southern style in the North Carolina music section. The app discusses local musical icons, the Earl Scruggs center and ‘shag’ music – which is anything from R&B to swing to pop and even Latin. In fact, ‘Carolina shag’ is the North Carolina state dance.
