Make an App

Create your app by following the app-making steps below. These steps should be followed once you have chosen your app development environment, planned your app, and set up your app development project. Done! Now you’re ready to make an app.

Make an App 5 Important Steps

  1. Sign up for an app-making platform.
  2. Create your app content.
  3. Design any necessary image assets.
  4. Generate the requisite app certificates.
  5. Upload everything, and then build your app.

Step 1. Sign up for an app-making platform.
To make an app, most platforms require you to sign a license and pay before you can really dive into creation. Be sure to review the license terms, including all fees and length of commitment.

Step 2. Create your app content.
If your app has content, use the platform’s toolset or other tools to design the documents or issues you want to serve through the app. Be sure to review your content carefully as you’re creating it.

Step 3. Design any necessary image assets.
Your app-making platform should give you a list of images you’ll need for your app. These can include icons for the devices you’re hoping to target as well as loading screens or sample screens for the app store. Some platforms even let you customize buttons and graphics in the app.

Step 4. Generate the requisite app certificates.
If you’re submitting the app through your own developer account, you’ll have to create certificates and provisioning files for it. These are small files created in your developer portal that tie the app to your account, or “sign” it. Creating these files isn’t usually difficult but may involve several steps. Some platforms may create these files for you; be sure to find out ahead of time if you don’t want to take it on yourself.

Step 5. Upload everything, and then build your app.
Once you have all the assets, most app-making platforms require that you upload everything to an online portal, where you can also make some choices about the features you want your app to have. Some platforms allow you to simply press a button to trigger your app build; others may require that you wait some days while they build your app for you.
