New SDK Allows Digital Publishers, Creative Agencies and App Makers to Build Completely Custom Apps Powered by mag+
November 15, 2012 – mag+ today introduces its new mag+ App SDK (Software Development Kit), which opens the mag+ engine to publishers, agencies and app developers, making it easier than ever to build and deliver fully immersive content and brand experiences to users. Now publishers can choose between using mag+’s award-winning white-label app or building their own app with the SDK, while still taking advantage of the mag+ creative toolset and powerful distribution backend.
Hundreds of leading publishers already use mag+ to create top-selling magazine apps, easily optimized for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The SDK extends mag+’s capabilities by allowing for whole new categories of apps to take advantage of the mag+ system, including e-commerce, utilities, newspapers and even games. The mag+ SDK gives developers access to the full mag+ ecosystem via a pre-built mag+ reader engine, saving hundreds of man-hours of coding. Now brands can focus on creating the content and app user experience that’s right for their brand, instead of trying to build a full digital publishing system from scratch.
As a publisher or app maker, how you work with the SDK and what you create is limited only by your imagination. Here are just a few examples of what our customers are working on right now:
Customized Magazine Apps
With the mag+ SDK, publishers are no longer locked into a specific set of app features and user experiences. Now they can create a unique magazine or newspaper app fully aligned with their brand, while making use of proven, best-in-class components. They can customize the menu and navigation, build their own storefront, even add their own choice of analytics or social sharing services.
Music and Movie Apps
Next-generation liner notes! With mag+’s support for simple embedding of video and our industry-unique built-in music playlist, artists and studios can now easily create apps that deliver more than just an album or movie. They can add premium content like lyrics, video clips, behind-the-scenes content, and audience interaction in a completely unique branded app.
Retailers can now create catalog apps that tie directly into their e-commerce system and present the shopping experience that’s right for their clients while designing beautiful pages using the mag+ creative tools.
The SDK allows developers to easily embed mag+ functionality into another app. So a brand could offer a single app that has shopping, games, tools and a magazine. Or existing apps can be augmented with a premium content channel, deepening the value of the app and the connection with the user.
“Digital publishing may still be the new kid on the block, but this industry is moving at light speed,” says Gregg Hano. “Customers and app users are getting ever more sophisticated in their requirements. We’re excited to extend the mag+ offering with the app software development kit so any developer can take advantage of the mag+ system while creating the app of their dreams. We’re opening a new phase in digital content creation.”
mag+ SDK Pricing
Similar to standard mag+ licenses, the mag+ SDK is offered at a monthly fee. The cost per month is $3,499, plus the standard mag+ license fee per app created. Especially beneficial to agencies and independent app developers, the SDK license grants you the rights to resell your concept to any customer in the market—and of course to set your own price. For content owners, the SDK license covers all of your brands.
If you’d like to try out the SDK, mag+ offers a 30-day trial period for $999.
